Many many thanks tothe Tennesean's Kate Howard, John Partipilo and Videographer Steven Harman for a job welldone, for their tireless trekking through the camp behind me, for treating every single person with utmost respect, confidentiality and kindness, and for working so hard under so many evolving changes to the camp's future.....

Someone recently posted a comment to an earlier story about employment woes and argued that some believe the internet is responsible for fragmenting the job listings, making it harder to for employers to connect with workers.

I'm not altogether sure I believe that no progress at all has been made in smashing the stereotypical view of those suffering from severe and persistent mental illness.

It's definitely predictable. Nashville has been clamoring for "affordable housing" options for years and now, when plans to bring a boatload of homes into an area materialize, neighbors come out in force to NIMBY the project.

Oh lordy. I've been suffering from a bit of insomnia lately and spend a lot of time late at night surfing, reading and farting around. Maybe I wasn't paying this much attention in 04, but it seems to me that this particular political season, the attack ads and parodies online have been nothing short of spectacular!

It's sh*t like this that has driven Nashville to begin seeking ways to establish homeless camps that are regulated, patrolled and provide a measure of safety to residents in the camps. Whether the effort pans out remains to be seen but at this point, that it's even on the table is a good thing.....

UPDATE: Much to report on the events today.

First, the commission meeting and some video will accompany a lengthy report tomorrow but for tonight, let me just say that it looks like we may have gotten the camp's closure at least postponed until November 1st, when Room in the Inn begins.
