I have to admit it, I have grown to like American Idol. It's pretty hypocritical of me because I have vowed for years not to watch reality television. I think it's killing the creative aspect of the medium. It's voyeuristic and embarrassing to admit, but I do like this show. I started watching last season during the auditions. It's kind of like a car wreck. You don't want to watch but you can't help yourself. Then, once you get familiar with the contestants it's interesting to see how

I could listen all day to BR-549 singing “Sweet Betsy from Pike.” I just love the way they say “Betsy” compared to all the other words in the song, which they let breathe naturally–first growing great big and then fading away.
But they sing “Betsy” like two short spikes of poetry.
I just like it.
I get used to hearing my name like it’s just something ordinary. But I love hearing it poking out like a tiny spur in

the poet? laughing, hardly.

rampaging through his submerged hands
he captures by cupping

oh certainly he assuredly
plays with placement and pronunciation,
enunciation; still an actor though at core,
a vaudeville comic skilled
in serving satire
in surreal sincerity;
loving language, and — its sensuality
But poetry?
Not me.
Not, at least, in that whic

I recently found this attempt at poetry, written during my Junior year in high school. After a bit of cleanup and editing, it seemed a good idea to post it to show that many years ago, I had at least a slight amount of talent. OK, I know.

Today’s social networks provide the means for people to engage in streams of conversations about anything and everything, one to one to millions. However, when the diverse networks, and the related conversations, become seamlessly interconnected by the current “shift” to “open source” then these streams of conversations become [...]

This is just about right. I tried to put this up at MCB from our pal Fishwreck (best name evah) and I couldn’t get it to look all pretty and stuff, so decided to put it here.
This video explain Twitter perfectly. Let’s not forget it was Sleepy Dad who found it first.
Awesomeness.

Let’s see…. New York, California, Texas, Ohio, Florida, Michigan….they all went to Hillary Clinton. The homers in Illinois went for their own.
It’s nice to see the states that matter aren’t falling for it.
Hell, even Tennessee knows better.

I have spoken with Ivy this evening, and because she currently does not have access to a computer, she asked that I post just to let you know a couple of things…
First of all, Katherine Coble has resigned her affiliation with Music City Bloggers effective immediately.
Secondly, effective immediately, all persons who were banned from commenting on MCB have had their “privileges” reinstated.

Since there's no one left in real life who wants to listen to me whine, I thought I'd tell you guys that I'm sick.
Wah.
I did have to rise from my death bed in order to purchase requisite Easter Bunny stuff, and the skank-girly ringing up my purchases says, "Oh, getting things for the grandbabies?"
Bitch.
OK, I look pretty rough today. But, still...

Here are ideas for Valentine’s Day that IMHO are pretty lame because they have no real usefulness. But I guess women like that kind of thing. I guess. These are ranked in order of cost and effort involved.

I was, um, taking a rest in the restroom at the Nashville airport somewhere on concourse C when my wife called wondering why I wasn’t at baggage claim just yet. I ignored the call because I didn’t want to be that guy - the guy who talks on his phone in the restroom. She called again. I once again ignored it. Then again. I answered, explained the reason for my tard

My thought for tonight as I head to sleep. This is my prayer.
I’m too alone in the world, yet not alone enough
to make each hour holy
I’m too small in the world, yet not small enough
to be simply in your presence, like a thing—
just as it is.

Well, I’ve been playing catch-up the past few days. Returning e-mails and phone calls that have piled up over the past month of my sabbatical. I think I’m about done now, or at least am at the point where I just have to wait for the returns to my replies. You know how it goes…
I’ve written a couple songs in the past few days. Two are aimed at an upcoming project that I’ll hopefully get to tell you about really soon, possibly later today. I’m rea

I walked into Panera for lunch.
There was an older gentleman examining the basket where the bread samples usually are.
He was homeless, and I walked by, admittedly kind of lost in my thoughts about getting my food and getting to work using the free wi-fi.
My thoughts were interrupted by a soft and respectful voice:

So I need your help with something. Recently, I’ve been struggling with the idea of the “Sabbath”. I think this is a spiritual discipline I have ignored for most of my adult life. I have always blamed it on the fact that I work on Sundays, but I know that’s just a lame excuse.

Buh-bye 2007. I had high hopes for you because you were a "9" year and all my numerology #s are 9s, LOL.
I hesitate to say 2007 has been the worst year of my life, but as far as challenges go, it is up there, haha.
I hope you all have a safe New Year and a productive one full of poetry wherever you find it and make it.
