Rude neighbors
I've had my share of obnoxious neighbors. The most recent incident involved my next door neighbors who couldn't understand why the law requires them to keep their dogs leashed and contained on their own property.
Imagine what these neighbors have to deal with living next to the guy pictured here. As Carl Taylor told News 2's Andy Cordan, he wishes his neighbors would mind their own business and stop calling the law on him. What Taylor doesn't seem to understand is that's exactly what they are doing... until he disrupts their business by revving the engine of the stock car he keeps on his property.
Taylor shouts at me. "Well, I had the police out here last Saturday, and police say I was not bothering a soul out here mid day Saturday I have motorcycles that run up this road louder than this car."
To prove to me that his car is not that loud, the 43 YEAR OLD jumps up on his race car, twists some wires and cranks the engine of the demolition derby machine.
"VROOOOOOOM"
The car spews out exhaust and a fire storm of noise. Blue smoke bursts out of the shiny chrome pipes extending through the hood. Taylor is energized as he jumps off the trailer like a wild animal ready to pounce. He heads right for me shouting over the voluminous roar.
"You tell me you can't hear Harley Davidson’s running down the road louder than that?"
"Say that again," I shout back, sort of amazed that anyone would try and communicate standing next to this power plant of pulsing energy.
"Tell me you don’t hear Harley Davidson motorcycles louder than that car right there."
I shake my head and move around to get some video of the exhaust pipes which are blowing out a steady belch of smoke.
Neighbors say everyone from Metro Councilman Bruce Stanley to the Hermitage Precinct of Metro Police claimed their hands were tied. Once Andy focused a News 2 camera on the situation, Metro Codes swooped in Wednesday and cited Taylor. Councilman Stanley also plans to tighten a loophole to include loud engines. Funny how that happens.
Tune in tonight to News 2 at 5 or go to Andy's blog for the full story.
