Two things were critical in my escape from homelessness: Methadone maintenance and college.

First, it took a Methadone addiction to free me from my addictions. It is true that I've exchanged one drug (or many drugs, in my own case) for another. It is also true that I am addicted to Methadone. It is true that I must get up every morning and "fix" in order to remain "well."

But what's much more important - and offsets my dependence on Methadone - is that for the first time i
