I just finished the audio book version of Steve Martin’s Born Standing Up and in it he reveals how one particular show in Nashville (where he also did some studio recording thanks to his friend/manager Bill McEuen who also managed the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) was a crucial development in his burgeoning stand-up career in the early 1970s:
