Shark Boy is six now and we are all still pretty comfortable with nudity in our house. But the last few times I've stepped from my bathtub when Shark Boy was fishing things from his toy bag or barging in to ask me a question, I've wondered.

You’ll never believe this, but remember a couple of weeks ago when my Beagle, Lula, had just died, and while she was sick, Dobie had this sort of stroke-like episode?  Which wasn’t a stroke, but was canine old age vestibular disease, which has sort of stroke-like symptoms, and in any case, was pretty frightening.

1. A few too many of my fingers presently smell like poo on account of them recently being submerged in poo.  The sink is too far away.  I’m not getting up.

2. Penelope (age three) swam underwater for the first time today.  I was there.  I saw it.

It was August 2001.

I had been in Grad School for two years.  In 1999, I arrived on the campus of Wake Forest University with a full scholarship and a fantastic, freaking gleam in my eye.  Beaming with pride and excitement, I was ready to Get My Masters Degree On.  Here I was, ready to start real research and studies in my chosen field!

I've always been a bit of a nerd about reading. I read anything I can get my hands on, whenever I have a minute. Newspapers in the morning (New York Times, USA Today, sometimes the Tennessean), art books, cooking magazines, novels, other blogs,...you get the picture. The weird part of this obsession is that I never finish anything before starting on something else.
