From here, via here. This is the Secretary/Treasurer of the AFL/CIO, Rich Trumka. Unions have been both a positive and negative force in our society at times. This is a good clip, though, and worth listening to (seven minutes).

Senator John McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention contained these words regarding education:

Equal access to public education has been gained, but what is the value of access to a failing school?

We need to shake up failed school bureaucracies with competition, empower parents with choice.

College students allege that the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) encouraged them to help organize food service workers, using rallies and even hunger strikes, while SEIU made deals with their employers to insure that there would never be unions at some state schools.

The Flypaper Theory on Rep. Cohen’s prospects:

I’ll be very surprised if Nikki pulls this one off. More than likely, her political career is over and she can go back to busting unions, or whatever it is she used to do.

Mike Stewart may have the unions, the newspapers, and the high powered lawyer lobbyist community behind him but his underfunded opponent for the 52nd state House seat,

Unions ought not to be needed... Neither should antibiotics.

But when an organism gets taken over for the explicit and emphatic benefit of one part of what should be a team, and to the detriment of the other parts, with death as a possible result, it's time for an inoculation.

Antibiotics have their down side and so do Unions. Neither can be used without discretion or some limits and controls.

Memphis Teamsters endorse Mike Padgett for U.S. Senate:

Teamsters Local 1196, headed by Nate Jackson, and Teamsters Local 984, headed by Terry Lovan, both are supporting Padgett in the Aug. 7 primary. Henry Perry, president of Local 667, announced his endorsement for Padgett last week.
