election year

Are you completely tired of all the debates held among the contenders for US President? I was after about the 4th debate. I stipped watching them, mostly because the so-called moderators turned the whole affair into another game show, or so it felt like that to me.

Sadcox comes to the table with a brillant idea:

Just when you thought we were stuck without any real choices this election year, I’ve come up with an option. I’m beginning a grass roots effort to convince Maryland State Senator Clay Davis to throw his hat into the ring.

Here’s a little bit of classic Megadeth for you, and something to think about this election year. This is one of the best metal songs ever, IMO. If metal isn’t your thing, at least watch enough of the beginning to get the gist and then forward the video to 2:15 for the payoff.

Editor of the City Paper, Clint Brewer, has some advice for the House Republicans (after taking an out of place shot at "progressives") if they want to win control from Naifeh:

$300,000,000,000.00 in funds for mortgage aid.  I hope this doesn’t get passed for several reasons.  First of all, it’s such an obvious attempt by both Democrats and Republicans to pander.  This probably wouldn’t be happening were this not an election year.

Would that all states apportioned their electoral votes, instead of using a winner-take-all system; but electoral college reform is, practically speaking, far removed from the pressing problems that affect our daily lives.

After this piece reported in The Nashville City Paper, the Tennessee Young Democrats come out with this message:

I am all kinds of broken up watching the coverage of (American journalist) Tim Russert's death, I'm not even sure why.

One reason, is that I simply cannot imagine what it's like for these NBC people to have to immediately begin national television coverage of your friend's death right after it happened in front of you.
