It was about mile 3 when my demons showed up. "Why do you do this to yourself? It's hilly and hot, and there's no shade for the next two miles." Every time I rounded a corner, I dreaded the sight. Would it be another uphill? For all my mental-toughness swagger, I can turn into a weenie lickety-split.
