When I was a kid, I had a friend, K. whose dad was an urepentant Southerner in the middle of Illinois married to a woman with the same name as his mother, which was a pretty uncommon name.  K’s mom, the aforementioned woman, was one of the first people who talked to me like an adult, not a kid.  I’ve always been grateful for that.

I am from Franklin, Tennessee, a place known for it's role in the Civil War.
The Battle of Franklin was fought there.
The website for the Carter House says this: "Franklin is the blackest page in the history of the War. It was the bloodiest battle of modern times in any war. It was the finishing stroke to the Independence of the Southern Confederacy."
