I had some great conversations this morning at the Nashville Geek Breakfast. Several of the topics touched upon some things that I have been thinking about - a lot - lately.
The topic nearest and dearest to my heart lately is “meeting your audience where they are.” What do I mean by that?

A Colorado judge has dismissed charges against a man who caused a fatal car crash, because the victim, at 8½ months of a pregnancy, had only been scheduled for a C-section to be born, and that had not yet happened at the time of the crash.

By now, most everyone has already heard about the tragedy at the University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill, with the murder of the student body President, Eve Carson. It appears that Eve was the victim of a random act of violence which took her young life and all its potential. Two young men have been arrested for her murder.

Although many folks, including myself have been weighing in on the new panhandling ordinance here in Nashville, what many of them might not know is the rather large effort currently underway by some major players in homeless advocacy and services who are working to dramatically increase services through local agencies.

So, the final vote on the “aggressive panhandling” bill is tonight. (Some background, including my stance on the whole thing can be found here). I just got e-mail from Skip Courtney, president of the URA, sent to the Metro council.
