Barack Obama is the latest in a long line of liberal Democrats to benefit from the political wisdom of FDR more than 70 years ago. It was FDR who created the Social Security program as a means to entrench the political power of Democrats by putting the government in charge of people's retirement rather than encouraging individuals to plan for their own retirements. The plot is simple.

Last week I read The 4-Hour Workweek, by Timothy Ferriss. Considering I currently don’t have any ‘workweek’ to speak of, I figure 4 hours might be a step in the right direction, especially if he’s suggesting that’s all you need to work. It was a decent read.

Despite being outspent 2 to 1, Democrat Bill Foster won the Congressional seat held by former Republican Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert in a special election in the heavily Republican district west of Chicago.
