Energy policy has become a flashpoint this campaign season, and both sides are jockeying over who has the best plan to handle gas prices that top $4 per gallon.

The following is from New York Times reporter Andrew Kramer, in response to a letter I wrote him referencing his article about Iraq oil deals:

So, the big buzz this week has to do drilling oil off-shore in order to lower our gas prices at home.

Well, that's a sham. It will take 7+ years for that oil to hit the market and, even then, it will be sold on a global market which means that US oil won't really be any cheaper for us than Saudi or Venezuelan oil.

We now see the results of the Bush/Cheney energy policy.
