I had the chance to make my first dives into two new coffee places this week, and relative to the java and fare that I can get elsewhere, I found them somewhat lacking.

I just checked in with Kat Roos to see how plans are coming for Drink Haus, her upcoming coffee house in Germantown, and here's her response:

Let's talk coffee. I love the stuff, and in the last few decades have learned much about the types of roasts available and techniques for making it. A few years back a friend foisted a glass of iced coffee on me and at first I sneered at it, but after tasting it, I caved in and admitted It Was Good.

Someone remind me this fall—when Best of Nashville rolls around—about the tom ka kai coffee at Crema. I finally tried one of Rachel Lehman's sultry new iced coffee drinks this morning, and it is my instant favorite coffee drink.

That's it for this week. A board of Zoning appeals meeting was cancelled as no appeals were filed.
