I've let one guy meet my parents since the divorce, but he didn't meet my grandparents/cousins/aunts/uncles/siblings. His own fault: he was invited to Christmas, he had accepted, the family kindly bought presents for him, and he at the last minute decided not to go. The Republic of Cuba is the home of my grandmother and countless uncles, aunts and cousins scattered throughout Florida and points north. I'd like to think most of us have moved past the idea that support and encouragement of our troops - the men and women who volunteer to serve in the military and not the hired contractors who serve to make a profit - does not mean support for the war in Iraq. I have never supported it and still cannot. |
