gratitude

The crowd belted out The Battle Hymn Of The Republic, the words projected onto a large screen behind the choir.  Beneath the words, as their background, an American flag waved with a cross imposed over it.

I know that this may be starting to pain some ears, but I find myself more needy than ever, as I make this attempt at life of the "average joe." I will most gratefully accept any and all donations - of every form - so to maintain this new plateau, until I find a way to maintain it myself. Food, clothing, some furniture, cash - I will accept it all with gratitude and humility.

Thanks for indulging me over the years. I know I can be a handful and that I’m odd to you sometimes.

I don't know if it's for Flag Day or if it's for Father's Day, but my beautiful wife and my elder son bought me the coolest, most wonderful present (that I opened early).

Isn't it great! We all have a day off and the weather is so wonderful! We will have a perfect day for barbecue!

But today, May 26, is more than a day off...it is more than a day with great weather. It is more than food.

It is Memorial Day, 2008...a day we, as Americans, remember the sacrifice our soldiers have made for this nation throughout our history.

Have you ever wanted to say “thank you”, but didn’t? Next time, say it…

For Mother’s Day today I thought I would interview my two oldest boys and ask them a few questions about their mother.

What does mom do for a living? Takes care of us.

There are two words I need to hear from you if we’re going to be close friends.  I’ll love you and even like you if I don’t hear these two words, but, I’ll admit, I won’t feel all that loved.  I need to hear “sorry” and “thanks.”

I know hunger of a certain kind. I know lying in bed, knees curled up to chest, trying to make my empty stomach feel full. I have lied to myself until I thought 112 was the scariest number the scale could ever read. I know this sort of controlled hunger, and it's the only hunger I've ever known.
