A lot of farming. Mostly farming, in fact. And as a result, along with the big-boxization of the US, it had dropped significantly in size and importance, except for one critical fact: 5 of Laura Ingalls Wilder's book are set in The Energy CrisisEchoes of the Civil War12

Find more posts like this: Once upon a time, there was a little city (well, small-town anyway) boy who wondered what it would be like to live on a farm in the rural Midwest. Fueled by old black-and-white "Lassie" reruns and my grandmother Melson's copies of Progressive Farmer magazine (far as I know, she never lived on a farm...), I pictured myself riding around on a tractor in a rolling wheat field, throwing around hay bales and milking cows.
