There is a reason that this week is particularly momentous for me. Though no one can fully know the inner heart of another, I am as certain as I can be that my father would have been overjoyed to see U.S. Sen. Barack Obama receive the nomination of a major political party for the office of President.

Victor Davis Hanson analyzes Obama's Berlin speech. Here's one great paragraph from the blog post:

Specifically, fiddles and mandolins. There's something about hearing someone play these instruments that makes me feel all warm and happy inside.

It's probably my eastern KY ancestry. Or, distant memories of fiddles and banjo pickin' at my grandparents' house when I was a little kid. Or, it's just really cool watching someone play the heck out of the fiddle.

I decided to get my real estate license after buying a home here in Middle Tennessee.  I was very disappointed in my agent and felt I could do a much better job than her.  I’ve carried that with me until this week when I finally realized that everyone loves to pile hate on real estate agents.  Everyone wants to find a reason to complain.

Richard Thompson thinks Congressman Steve Cohen is trying too hard to ingratiate himself to the voters of his majority black district and that he made a mistake mentioning that his ancestory can be traced back to Africa:

From the Commercial Appeal:

Cohen took a small dig at LaSimba Gray, a black pastor and one of the Congressman’s biggest local critics. Gray has publicly said that a white man cannot lead a majority black district.

Cohen said that he’d recently paid $115 to have his DNA ancestry traced, and the results led to Africa.

And Mitt Romney a modern day Tory:

Huckabee said that, like him, the Continental Army also faced skeptics. “At the beginning of this country there were some farmers with muskets. Nobody thought they could beat the British. After all, the British were so well-financed. And they had the nice long rifles. …They had a magnificent Navy. Our guys had a few rowboats.”
