coming home

Coming home from lunch, I saw a bunch of police at the park.

Then coming out of the grocery store, I saw a kid who hit a guy in the head with a skateboard take off running towards the park.

As my first post here at "This is Smyrna, TN" I just want to send out a "thank-you" to our local firefighters. There's plenty of suspicion of government these days, and often rightfully so, but there still seem to be solid men and women who are serving this country and doing their jobs well. Particularly on the local level - and definitely here in Smyrna.

Google pervs - move along. Sorry about that title, but trust me, there ain't nothing here you're interested in.

The following troubling report came across the 12South listserv today:

This morning Mr. Beale and I headed out for a late breakfast at a local eatery not too far from the house. Who is sitting behind us but Sen. Bob Corker, dining with what appeared to be a staffer. Plenty of folks were stopping by his table to say hello, so when we had finished our meal and I saw the senator was still there, I screwed up my courage to do likewise.

OK....you know how athletes grow out their facial hair when they are in the FINALS or the World Series or the Stanly Cup Playoffs!!??

It's hard enough to simply get the things one needs for survival when one is homeless. It's even harder to keep anything of value once one is successful in obtaining it.

Tonight is a great music night here in music city.
