Just for the record, I’m not an Obama supporter at all. At all. Yet for some strange reason I find myself defending him more often than not.

When I was at the height of my drug addiction, I used to spend a lot of time down in the northern/central valley of California, sleeping in my car; old buildings; dope fiend friends couches, floors and bathrooms, living each day from fix to fix, from rock hit to rock hit.

I remember those times quite clearly, even as drug addled as I was, because I would often wonder what the hell I was doing in these places.

There were about a dozen instances in the past week where I meant to write something here but then figured I’d wait until tomorrow.

Several tomorrows later, here I am.

I turned 44 yesterday. I did absolutely nothing except watch football and sit on my ass and I loved it. I might’ve agreed to turn 45 for another day off if were possible.

Thank the Gods for Nashville's Oasis Center and the great outreach team that works with Homeless youth, Ben and Jen. They are out on the street damned near every day, trying to help Nashville's homeless kids get some positive things going in their lives, and trust me, it is not an easy job, but it certainly has "reward potential" that blows the lid off of most of my own work.
