When I heard the news that the nominees for this year's Hugo Award had been announced, I have to admit I was pretty excited. Each year, I try to at least read all of the nominated novels and decide which one I think is most deserving of the award. It's something I look forward to each year.

2007 marked the 50th anniversary of the publication of one of my favorite novels, Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged”. I first read it over a decade ago. It was then, and remains, one of the most influential pieces of literature in my personal and professional development. It’s the story of a small group of men and one woman who become influential members of society owing to their contributions in key areas such as business, finance and the like.

Crime is on the rise and times are getting weird with the Gov'ment wanting to flow our money back to us in order to prime the economy pump. I think the cash would be better spent somewhere in the education or health care system in real dollars per person not some whacked out program that has a crew of over paid council members and directors.

I opened a little cottage out in the forest on the edge of Deadwood. My cottage was a “Cheesebook”, which is apparently a speciality shop that lets books and sells cheese. I guess it was kind of like a coffee house, except instead of bands there were novels and instead of coffee there was an outstanding variety of cheeses.
