I think I have espoused my love of Cook's Illustrated once or twice on the blog...

Well, today, my worlds collided. I got this email from Chris Kimball (the founder and editor of Cook's Illustrated):

Okay, kids, it’s time for that wacky new game: Elitist: Yes or No? (Cue cheesy game show music)

First, we have Cindy McCain, heiress to a beer fortune, telling CNN that the only way to get around the state of Arizona is by private plane! Elitist: yes, or no?

Are you completely tired of all the debates held among the contenders for US President? I was after about the 4th debate. I stipped watching them, mostly because the so-called moderators turned the whole affair into another game show, or so it felt like that to me.

Wacky chef Jeremy Barlow has gone a little Monty Hall on us. This week over at tayst, ordering off the menu will be a little like playing Let’s Make a Deal. Instead of choosing what’s behind the curtain, you choose a protein. But you never know how it’s going to be prepared. (Of course, the regular menu will be available if you don't feel adventurous.)

So, John Schwartz thinks a game-show format for presidential debates is a good idea?

I’m watching Dennis Miller’s new game show, “Amnesia,” which is kind of fun, sort of a cross between a quiz show, “The Newlywed Game” and “This Is Your Life.” They research all sorts of obscure facts about the contestant’s life — for example, the first contestant was a male cheerleader in high school, and one of the questions was about the uniform number of the football team’s star quarterback.

I just watched a new game show on GSN (new to me — it started a few weeks ago), “How Much Is Enough?”, hosted by Corbin Bernsen, who most people remember as Arnie Becker on “L.A. Law.”

Still taking donations for my buddy’s benefit. We will have T-shirts designed by the fabulous Squirrel Queen available by the end of the week for $20.

We also have DVD’s of his former show, Club Country that was on WLJT, and CDs of a radio show he’s done with Chris Brinkley, who is the voice of the UTM Skyhawks, called Game Show on the Go.Those are $10.

It will be bleak.

The strike by writers will become most prominent in the next few weeks, as TV broadcasters attempt to return to non-holiday schedules. Some shows have a dozen or fewer episodes to air - unless it is a game show.
