I really liked what John McCain said about the lessons he learned as a POW and his desire to stop living for himself and living for his country. I think that’s a great message, and I’m sure it resonates with a lot of people. It may actually help him that he doesn’t deliver this message with a tone that implies empty rhetoric.

Some conclusions out of tonight:

“Well, you’ve sure got a lot to write about these days!” It almost never fails. When I tell people I’m a blogger and political activist, they almost always respond with those words. And it’s true. What I don’t have is a lot of time to write about the lot that I have to write about!

1. Apparently, if you want conservatives to like you, all you have to do is get knocked up outside of marriage. Then they'll love you!

2. John McCain was a POW. Seriously, I didn't know that until today.

1. We're now seeing that the McCain campaign conducted no vetting of Sarah Palin whatsoever.

To those who have been amazed over the last few weeks by John McCain getting out of every gaffe and scandal by saying it's ok because he was a POW (and also by the media who give him a free pass every time he does it), bear in mind that it's not a new thing. He did the same thing against his possible VP Mitt Romney during the primary:

It’s really quite simple:

John McCain has served in Congress for 26 years following 22 years of military service.

As I noted in this post, John McCain’s campaign is now trotting out his POW stint as a magic Band-Aid® to fix all sorts of verbal snafus.
