Yes, Furry Lewis was primarily a bluesman, but he played and sang solo almost exclusively in the latter decades of his life, and for the most part he did his own material.

I believe his first "hit" that was covered during the blues revival of the Sixties is "I Will Turn Your Money Green":

About four years ago I was reading the paper in a small town in Minnesota. I read an article by Congressman Mark Kennedy entitled: “The Great Experiment” which discussed the sacrifices many soldiers had made to make this country what it is today. I felt the need to reply in this letter to the editor that you see below.

It didn't get much coverage in the U.S. but last Friday Russia revived their Cold War and pre-Soviet breakup tradition of a Victory Day military parade in Red Square.   Tanks and missiles rolling past St. Basil's cathedral...how Russian is that?
