There is a bill in the US Senate right now that deserves our support. Senate Bill 594, the Cluster Munitions Civilian Protection Act, currently has twenty-one sponsors in the Senate. This bill would ban the use of cluster bombs, which injure thousands of innocent people each year. Unfortunately the Pentagon and Department of Defense officials have fought the effort to outlaw these weapons.

Here's another entry in the puzzling story of our missing-in-action governor. This week, the House killed legislation to place new environmental safeguards on strip mining, and Bredesen admitted that, although he favors such restrictions, he wasn't familiar with the bill and hadn't lifted a finger to help it.
