Good neighbors are such a blessing, and we feel lucky to be surrounded by terrific people we really like. We invited our Japanese friends Isamu and Akiko and their children for dinner one night — they are such nice people, and Akiko takes my child to school on the days when the bus arrives early or never arrives at all. It’s hard to know what to cook for people you don’t know well, so when Akiko mentioned that they had honeymooned in Lisbon, I settled on Spanish food.

So earlier, I was making pomanders by sticking cloves in oranges. Don't be impressed -- I was desperately avoiding decorating the second tree, wrapping presents, doing laundry and cleaning the bathrooms.
I'm not usually crafty, but I had inventoried my spices and herbs this afternoon when I was printing my recipes for our Christmas Eve get-together. I'm going to try to get the bulk of my grocery shopping done tomorrow, leaving time Sunday afternoon to run back to the store for the ha
