Jerry Maynard has written a letter to Metro Council member requesting that if the schools are to be rezoned in Nashville that the indulgence tax be paid in full.

The Metro Council's Budget & Finance Committee is currently debating the non-profit grant award process in which panel reviews dictate which organizations are going to get Metro tax revenues.

Chris Sanders notes how hard it is to place the “progressive” title on a politician in a hyperlocal context:

Amy Griffith reports that at a community meeting led by Councilman and Reverend Jerry Maynard an appeal was made for Mayor Karl Dean to join the fight against school rezoning. Only one problem, he appears, more or less, to be for it:

In a scene that seemed straight out of the civil rights era, the NAACP has just demanded that the school board reconsider its rezoning plan and, in the meantime, take $6 million from its reserve funds and spend it immediately to begin improving Pearl-Cohn schools.
