Lt. Vicki Swisher, with the Nashville Metro Police department, recently attended one of our local outreach meetings and I was impressed with her compassion and her frank honesty concerning the homeless issues her department must address on a daily basis.

"The city's proposed new encampment sweeps policies increase the jeopardy for homeless people."

Home is sacred, even if it is a tent, and this is one of the reasons I was so upset at the idea of local college students handing out cameras to unsuspecting noobs at our own local Tent City in order to get some photos of Homeless folks going about their daily lives in their "homes."

Ken Kraybill will be coming to Nashville in February to provide training to those who are involved in any way with Homeless outreach. The training targets outreach workers but also, and perhaps more importantly, those who dictate what outreach workers will be doing (read that supervisors and program directors), as well as anyone interested in discovering better ways to engage and interact with our Homeless population.
