I know that there are some outliers who read my blog to keep up on some level with what's going on at Otter Creek, and obviously we're in a major time of transition right now, so here's what's going on.

Yesterday, Sheryl, Kinsey, and I went to the cemetery where some of my family is buried. We went there for a visitation for a dear saint of Otter Creek who passed away Saturday night. But while we were there, we stopped by the area where some of my family is buried.

Yesterday, the incoming president of the World Convention (Christian - Churches of Christ - Disciples of Christ) B.J. Mpofu of Zimbabwe spoke at Otter Creek. I found it encouraging on a couple of levels.

1) That OC would be associating with a larger worldwide group of believers and followers within our own movement.

2) I think it was great for us to hear from an international perspective. One

Every Wednesday night, before the "regular" classes, Otter Creek does a thing called HymnSing. In one of the classes, about 30-50 people gather and sing just hymns. In our Sunday services, I think we do a good job of mixing hymns and newer songs, but I also like that old feel of the hymns too.

Being Definied By What We Aren't

On Wednesday's post, I made the following statement: "It's very easy for a church like Otter Creek to get defined by what we aren't: 'we aren't a conservative church of Christ.'" As I read back over that, it felt like a fairly significant idea.

Following Brandon Scott Thomas and Scott Owings, on Sunday, Tim Woodroof, the teaching minister at Otter Creek Church of Christ, announced his resignation. July will be his 10th anniversary of his work at Otter Creek and he felt that it was time to move onto something else. If you want to listen to the announcement from Sunday, you can here.
