One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to get books from the public library, rather than buy them, which has been my custom for years. My husband and I love books, but I realize that books generate paper and waste. I’m trying to become a minimalist.

The photo ID previous to voting has been upheld by the US supreme court. This has always seemed like a no brainer to me. It takes a photo ID to get a library card, to get on an airplane or to drive a car but none to vote.

PlanetTrash makes lots of New Year Resolutions and keeps some of them. In 2008, we will use a library card instead of buying books. Mostly we buy MP3s, which eliminates some plastic. We are continuing to say NO to plastic bags. We bought one item at Walgreen’s today and declined the plastic bag to carry it to the car. Very soon, our newspaper subscription will expire, and we will eliminate over half of what we take to the recycling bins.
