At work this afternoon, surrounded by co workers the rumors were confirmed.
Tim Russert is dead.
We heard about it like we get most news tips, a phone call.
A few calls later we were told it was true but we couldn't report it yet, family was still being called.
So we all sat in stunned silence in the conference room, no one knew what to say.

I read of today's passing of former Memphis Congressman Dan Kuykendall with some sadness but also pleasant nostalgia. I got a chance to meet him back in the summer of 1967; and I found him to be a very gracious man. You can read the detailed local obit here and his interesting Wikipedia bio here.

Today, I would have been celebrating a little girl's 4th birthday. I think of the baby we named Mari Elizabeth all the time, think about how May 24th was my due date. My heart is not as broken as it once was, but it still hurts. I'm pretty sure it always will.
