Find more posts like this: Welcome to a new, very short installment of Shark-Bites. Mommy has not been very good this summer about jotting these things down on every receipt, napkin, and bank envelope in her purse. I'm sure I've missed some real winners. Easy come, easy go5

Find more posts like this: The kids have been in school a couple of weeks now, and Busy Boy (7th grade, can you believe that?) has been uncharacteristically doing his homework on his own, without complaint. We're trying to stand back and let him take care of it, so I have no idea if he's doing it right, but we'll take it. Busy Boy: "Aren't you proud of me for doing my work by myself?" Find more posts like this: Oh man have we gotten skunky around here. As in that end of the second week of school staying up too late watching the Olympics and putting off homework til bedtime skunky. And by skunky I am mean funky skunky. Everyone is grouchy and short-tempered and loud and stinky and yucky and did I say grouchy. Including me. "Do you want to pray first or me?"5

Find more posts like this: "Do you want to pray first or me?" For as long as I can remember, "Do you want to pray first or me?" has been part of my nightly ritual with Kenzo. This is my favorite part of the day. The lights are out, the TV is off, the homework is done (I hope) and all that is left is the last handful of thoughts and wonderings and wanderings. Find more posts like this: I just can’t believe it. On Wednesday, the kids are going back to school. Summer break is officially over. Instead of hanging out at home or friends, and instead of us trying to figure out what they’re doing during the day, it will be ferrying too and from school and school events … and the dreaded homework. Find more posts like this: Much has been surmised about what attendance at Loretta Lynn's first teenaged performance might have entailed. Caitlin Rose's Dead Flowers seems answer the question, once and for all. Rose unflinchingly tackles the timeless topics of teenage pregnancy and primate love with an enthusiasm that is, if not completely infectious, to be admired. |
