Since the Republicans have held power the country has gone to hell in a handbasket due to their partisanship, ideology based governance and pure stinking REPUBLICAN incompetence.

On the media front:

German chancellor, Angela Merkel, is the first world leader to announce she won't attend the Olympics in Beijing.

Her decision is based on China's crackdown of Tibet.

While I applaud her decision to boycott the games, I am disappointed it as taken this long and why it has taken this long.

So some claim. Is it true? The answer would be a definite maybe. The problem is that the "victory" is Pyrrhic.

It is true that the civil war is simmering down somewhat. The problem is that Iraq, for all intents and purposes, no longer exists. Iraq has basically splintered into three autonomous regions that, not incidentally, share no love for one another. There is no effective central Iraqi government, nor is there likely to be one.
