ten seconds

For several years, my family has vacationed in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, but with vacation days (and money) at a premium, Steve and I hadn't planned to join them this summer.

I was talking to a friend last week about the Internet and its effect on high school yearbook sales. (It's killing them.) Many students aren't buying them anymore mainly because they feel that with websites like MySpace and Facebook, what's the need?

Now that the Bug has learned to crawl, the world has indeed changed. No longer can we put her down and expect her to be in the same place ten seconds later. No longer can we sit and watch her play at a spot on the floor.

For the last week or so, the bug has been pulling up every chance she gets. Any time there’s something to grab, she tries to pull up. But her only luck thus far has been pulling up with our help.

I read with a little amusement Sharon Cobb’s recap of last night’s civil Republican debate.  On the whole, she’s got a pretty good eye for these things, and understands Republican politics better than many Republicans.  This part was the most interesting to me:

Earlier this afternoon, I was sitting in my big comfy chair, watching a few minutes of a Star Trek: Voyager repeat when my doorbell rang. I wasn't expecting anyone to come over (my family and friends are good about avoiding the "pop-in" without calling first to make sure I'm awake) so as I looked out through my peephole, I was puzzled as to who these two strangers were on my doorstep.
