My friend William is one of many wise people I wish I spent more time with.  I wish he lived next door and didn’t have a real job and I didn’t work on Saturdays when he doesn’t.  I wish this because he makes me laugh, he’s a great listener, he asks me and himself hard questions, he’s slow to speak, and he thinks great stuff like this:

God is at work even beyond the four walls we call our church. Sometimes we miss the big picture of what God is doing or wants to do through us because we become single-minded in our ministry. Over the years I have observed churches become ministries unto themselves rather than outward focused ministries.

Jesus talked more about this thing he called the “kingdom of heaven” or the “kingdom of God” than anything else.  He said he came to bring it here to earth.  It IS the Good News he preached everywhere he went. It was important to him.

Two years ago, I admitted that I love politics. I love the races and I watch both sides with equal interest. And while I've also admitted that I think politics is a very imperfect way to try and achieve the goals of the Kingdom of God, that doesn't dampen my interest in it.
