I spent the last couple of days with a cooler and cases of bottled water, roaming downtown and East Nashville looking for folks cooking to medium rare in the afternoon sweat-bath. While I haven't seen the "hot-helpers" I know they've been out because I've been told by my clients on the street that the only other place they've been able to find water is from the Mission folks.

Everywhere I look I see cities doing great things for their own people experiencing homelessness.

By now, you probably have seen the video of the elderly man getting hit by a car whose driver couldn’t be bothered to stop. As if that initial incident wasn’t bad enough, the footage grows even more disgusting as you watch several other cars drive by the helpless man as if he was a piece of litter.

Frankly I'm getting mighty tired of veterans who come to me complaining they aren't able to get services, then in the next breath blaming "bleeding heart liberals" for their woes and lack of services.

There seem so many parts of our society hurting and suffering that it could make you sit and ponder all day long if you are prone to concerns for your fellow human being. If you care for the planet...

Kudos to Franklin officials who are going to go out and do the homeless count; it's damned important to get at least some idea of how many of your citizens are sleeping "on the bricks" if you're interested in receiving a portion of the paltry sum from the Feds that is designated for the Homeless, not to mention one's own sense of concern for a fellow human being, regardless of who that person might be.
