I have tried over the past few weeks to overlook the market reports and the ongoing talk of bailouts and failing banking institutions. After all, you and I likely are not changing our plans dramatically even though the Dow dropped into four figures for the first time in five years. Charts tell a harrowing story.

I wasn't going to write this post. I am not going to let myself wallow or disintegrate into some mess of sobs.

I got an email the other morning. Titled "I'm a coward"

None of the news sources I’ve read will verify whether or not Jesus Humberto Canales has a green card, but I’m going to make an unfair assumption here and see how the fuzzy dice land on this one. If you happen to see Jesus driving around in his bronze minivan, do humanity a favor and shoot him on sight.

To the President’s credit, he finally seized upon this golden political opportunity, and called for Congress to allow increased oil exploration.
And what was the Democratic response?
This is funny. After spending all of this time painting the evil oil companies as a bunch of profit hungry, heartless SOBs, Rham Emanuel now accuses them of hoarding oil. [...]

Sheryl and I had plans last night to go out to dinner with some friends and then go and hear one of my favorite theologians, NT Wright, speak here in Nashville. Our friend, Tiffany, had come over to watch the kids for us and as we were getting ready to walk out, the phone rang. I answered and my mom spoke with her voice breaking into sobs that my grandmother had died.

If Peggy Noonan is correct in this Wall Street Journal editorial, Hillary's new voice won't be all that new. I hope she is wrong. I wonder if Barack Obama's hope can sustain these approaches and stick to the message? I hope so.
