Covering up any real public attempt to answer the question John McCain's suitability for the office of president is the incessant blather that he was a prisoner of war and therefore a hero.

Getting shot down on a mission may be nothing more than an indication that he is a bad pilot, and the additional evidence of his numerous other lost aircraft would seem to support that finding. We know that

If Michelle Obama had told a whopper like this, we'd be hearing about it non-stop. But since it was Cindy McCain and since her husband was a prisoner of war, we can only shrug our shoulders, because we wouldn't want to question their integrity, now would we?

And by “fairy tale” I do mean in the “can’t distinguish fact from fiction” sense.

Apparently John McCain told two compelling stories at Saddleback Church over the weekend, both of which are seriously lacking in the credibility department.

It was rather humbling for me to realize that unlike me, John McCain, former prisoner of war, would have never gone to the grocery store having left the list at home…

I intend to tell Noggin that John McCain, former prisoner of war, would not leave the toilet seat up in the bathroom he shares with his sister.

What McCain's time in Vietnam has to do with anything is beyond me:

John McCain, in an appearance at the Ryman, points to his experience in Vietnam as a POW as shaping his faith in a higher power:

“What or who is the supreme authority in your life and how will it be evident” in your presidency, a woman in the audience asked McCain.

The Reverend Jeremiah Wright says that he’s been taken out of context.  Really?  And the Reverend says he and Obama haven’t talked politics.  Really?  It seems most of his sermons are nothing but politics.
