Vince Young would probably prefer to forget the past 48 hours.

The California Commission on the Death Penalty released its report on June 30, 2008, and I think it is important for Tennesseans, whose legislature is also examining the death penalty with the Tennessee Committee to Study the Administration of the Death Penalty, to reflect on what the California report found. Here are some excerpts:

Delays

This is certainly encouraging. The McCain campaign has finally castigated the Obamessiah for playing the race card.

Today I took the husband to the oncologist. Was nothing more than a precautionary/preventative visit, but really I have had enough of oncology offices to last me three lifetimes.

Some tough but necessary talk about energy:

I want to have an unpleasant talk with you about a problem unprecedented in our history. With the exception of preventing war, this is the greatest challenge our country will face during our lifetimes. The energy crisis has not yet overwhelmed us, but it will if we do not act quickly.

Sarah Tuke, daughter of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Bob Tuke, points us to some webspace devoted to chronicling Tuke’s march across Tennessee as well as discussing her father’s moral mettle:

Anyone who assists folks here in Nashville with public housing applications knows that getting someone into that housing is often like pulling hen's teeth. Myriad restrictions apply, Section 8 is closed until further notice, and people are often penalized for things that have occurred many years prior in their lifetimes.

The first of several trials to come is now underway in what a couple of local members of law enforcement have told me is the worst case of torture, abuse, and murder seen in Knoxville in their lifetimes.
