Nothing Sarah Palin has said since her convention speech has been nearly as connective with the common struggles of American families as Joe Biden's following comments about his family:

“John McCain’s decision to suspend his campaign was made in the hopes that politics could be set aside to address our economic crisis.

It looks like Black Monday's market crash has knocked the wind out of Republican plans to ride Sarah Palin's own brand of gunbearing-mommy-kulturkampf to the White House. John McCain is now striking the pose of firebrand populist challenging the big boys on Wall Street with threats of regulation (even though his domestic policy voting record has been all Bushie, all the time):

Last night’s speech by John McCain was so lackluster, it took real effort to keep from switching to, oh, I dunno, a World Series of Poker rerun. As one commenter at Eschaton posted, “the crowd went mild.”

And what was up with the green screen? Have they learned nothing?

McCain explains himself after coming under fire for attack Barack Obama’s patriotism:

Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi adjourned Congress for a 5 week recess.  Republicans unanimously voted against adjournment.  They are demanding a debate on drilling.  They realize the pressure that Americans are under—that’s  American families, American business, American industry.

Senator Obama is now pushing for another round of economic stimulus checks to American families to the tune of $1,000 that will be funded not by the federal treasury, but by Big Oil. This is typical liberalism, redistributing wealth that belongs to other people to those who have done nothing to earn it.

One of the sides to employment that wasn’t always covered were those folks that never actually lost their jobs, but whose hours had been cut. The NYTimes takes a look:
