Let me say this first: I was hoping that the GOP speeches would be awful. Romney's was, but Giuliani and Palin both delivered very effective and riling political speeches. They fired up their base and they attacked the other party. They gave the convention the red meat it wanted and their response was vibrant.

I’ve got to say it.  Sarah Palin’s speech served up so much red meat that I had to unbuckle my belt at the table.  My expectations were low and I think people tuned in expecting a little bite and were served a buffet.

Some got served more than others.

Slate and Politico are my two go-tos when it comes to political news. There's rarely the red meat you get from Olbermann, The Nation, Mother Jones, National Review, WSJ, or the Op-Ed page of the Times. There's several articles on Slate and Politico about the Palin pick. Apparently, it seems like anyone outside the National Review is befuddled by the pick.

That was a remarkable speech. Obama, deliberately by all appearances, turned down some of the flowing rhetoric and attacked McCain and the Republicans for their failures of the last eight years. He made a fullthroated defense of progressivism and full-throated attack on conservatism as it has been practied in the last eight years.
