After giving a speech to a business group yesterday, I was reminded by one of the participants of an unexpected benefit of finding a safe little market niche. Many established businesses that you might normally think of as your competitors can become your sales force.

I've railed against these damned payday loan and checkcashing establishments here before; the "poor man's credit card," they specifically target those who can least afford to use them, then charge them exorbitant "interest' rates to use their services.

Free markets are neither inherently good, nor are they inherently evil. Entrepreneurial activity is not in an of itself a moral act. The ends that the entrepreneur pursues and how they pursue those ends defines the morality of their entrepreneurial efforts.

There are entrepreneurs who use their gifts and talents to build businesses that provide economic, social, and cultural benefits.

Last term it was Buck Dozier (at-large) sponsoring a bill (unsuccessfully) to allow more distracting bright light clutter on the streetscapes of Nashville. Now Charlie Tygard is poised to take his turn. And I have to wonder how far local sign maker and Metro patron Bobby Joslin's foot is in the do
