They had the academic awards ceremony at my kids’ school last night.  It’s rough, because it’s easy to get caught up in the whole competitive nature of these things.  It’s an academic-oriented school, so for many of the kids and parents, last night was their Raison d’être.

Four awards have been presented to local artists as part of the Dogwood Arts Festival 2008 Fine Arts Show. The Best of Show award of $500 was awarded to Melynda Moore Whetsel of Knoxville. You can see a list of all the award winners on the Emporium Center page on Art Museum Touring.com (Link...).

I read an article recently where some film critic was bemoaning the hideous-ugly depressing nature of movies nominated this year for an Oscar award. As if, for instance, last year's winner "The Departed" was a slapstick comedy of errors. Which, okay, it sort of was.

My co-worker Brian Mosely passed along this video from the Cartoon Brew web site. It was apparently made for an animation awards ceremony; it features familiar clips from “Casablanca,” “Singin’ In The Rain” and “The Godfather” as overdubbed by the voice cast of “Spongebob Squarepants,” to humorous effect:
