BAGHDAD - It’s Father’s Day, so at the end of the service this evening the Chaplain asked all the fathers to stand for a blessing. Of the 50 people there, I counted only four still in their seats. Granted, I serve in a headquarters, so we’re an older bunch–meaning that there are probably more Dads here than in most units.

Well, this weekend is Father’s Day. We all know it’s not as big as Mother’s Day and here’s the stats to prove it. According to BIGResearch, a market intelligence firm, consumers surveyed said they plan to spend an average of $31 on their dads, as opposed to the average $41 they said they spent on mom this year.

Monday mornings hit me in the face like a whiff of ripe garbage. I don’t do Mondays, particularly Monday mornings, very well. I am a bit of a control freak, so I don’t like the tendency for Monday to get railroaded by a million distractions.

Why has it taken so very long to see a woman as a serious presidential contender?
