old lady

I’m learning a lot, watching the world through the experience of my very old grandmother. It’s true that every day is a gift, and you can learn something every day. But sometimes it’s hard to be grateful for that gift when the day brings pain, or loneliness or isolation. And things you learn, you might just as soon not know.

True story.

At 6:15 am I dressed in relative darkness so as not to wake the old lady.

At 3:10 pm nature called, and I went to answer. While tucking things back, I noticed a label on the waistband of my boxers. All the underwear I own, including the Curious George undies currently on my person have labels on the back of the waistband not the front.


...sigh...

How dare they point out the fact that B. Hussein Obama and his old lady are hate-America-firsters from way back. I can see the miniature Senator now, fuming, steam shooting out of each side of his beet-red face, muttering “my friends, my friends, my friends” over and over again.

I’m going to the eye doctor today.  I’m thinking of trying contacts again.  I wore one some number of years ago and I got frustrated with it and in typical, Sista fashion, I gave up pretty quick.  I think I’m gonna need two this time since that was going on ten years ago and I know my vision has gone downhill since. 

My children become very nearly my whole life. They take up the time, energy, enthusiasm, joy, and much of the purpose that is my life. This is how it is meant to be. No regrets.

Yet, sometimes I hate that part. Sometimes, like today, I wish I could take my damn life back and not be held hostage to the whims of some 19 year-old child.
