Although there are still a lot of bad mortgages out there, the real problem in the economy is the credit crisis. The Fed has made available, through its normal means, around $400 billion already in credit. Unfortunately, nobody’s biting on this money. Banks and other credit issuers aren’t certain who is a safe borrower and who isn’t. Not on an individual basis, mind you.

Washington Mutual (formerly located in Seattle, BTW; NTTAWWT) issued it’s Final Press Release before going t*ts up…
