A temblor rated at 5.8 on the Richter scale struck southern California about a quarter past 11 a.m. The quake was centered near Pomona. CNN reports,

The quake's epicenter was about 2 miles southwest of Chino Hills and about 5 miles southeast of Diamond Bar, the USGS said.

Two earthquakes occurred today (July 5, 2008) in or near Tennessee.

The first was at 1:14 am and registered 2.0 on the Richter scale.
It was centered four-miles ESE of Madisonville (38 mi. SSW of Knoxville) in East Tennessee.

When I was a kid, and I’m talking about five-years-old, I used to confuse earthquakes and volcanos. I was terrified of volcanos for some reason, but I would get the words messed up and ask my mother if west Tennessee could have earthquakes.
