Badger and I were talking about Cousin Oliver on the Brady Bunch the other day and about the Cousin Oliver syndrome as a whole. We both agreed that when a television show adds a cute and snarky kid, the show is doomed.

A video pops up on YouTube of a wee boy singing "Hey Jude" and the video shows up on the pages of MetaFilter and quick as a wink, listing of cover songs of Beatles music spins out.

In case you haven’t noticed lately communication has taken some incredible steps forward. It’s sort of a no-brainer to folks living in the new media fishbowl, but to newbies it can be overwhelming to understand how these conversations are being conducted. The conference, or un-conference circuit is a prime example of what I’m talking about.

Thirdpower correlates instances of mass shootings with their Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership state rankings and gun free zones. Note that the Brady Bunch did not rank Washington DC, the murder capital of the country.

Not, it’s not causation but it does indicate that gun controls don’t exactly stop these things.
