After the Tennessee Center for Policy Research put out a press release noting that famed Global Warming scaremonger Al Gore's electricity usage has gone up 10 percent in the last year, the Gore camp fired back, claiming Gore's energy usage has gone down. Apples to oranges.

While the Metro government prepares to lay off 200 people, another 200 sit at the top of the city's salary heap, each of them pulling in a six-figure salary.

"According to officials at the Nashville Electric Service, more and more people are falling deeper and deeper in debt."

An effort to level the playing field for minority- and female-owned businesses competing for Metro government contracts became law Tuesday with a unanimous vote by the Metro Council.

The law, supported by Mayor Karl Dean, will overhaul the way companies compete for city business and how such contracts are awarded.
