80% of the shrimp consumed by Americans is imported despite both the productive local industries and the huge carbon footprint caused by transporting Asian shrimp halfway around the world to American tables.

The Commission on Growth & Development recently issued their report on global economic development: "The Growth Report: Strategies for Sustained Growth and Inclusive Development". The report concluded that there is no fast and easy answer. It takes long-term commitment and patience to create sustainable growth in an economy.

So, I ordered some new products for ghia. I've found a couple of fair trade companies that provide awesome products at very affordable prices. That's a hard thing to do when avoiding unethical manufacturing processes (sweatshops, child labor, etc.).

Sam Davidson argues that Forbes Magazine has an obligation not just to report abuses of child labor but to suggest solutions on how to fix the problem.

A recent issue of Forbes Magazine has a cover image of a young boy, laboring away as his underaged hands weave a carpet for export. The cover copy suggests I'll find a story about child labor inside. I'm intrigued.
